Choosing a high school is one of the biggest decisions a family makes.

The parents of our students care about flexibility, accessibility and understanding about their childrens unique and sometimes complex needs.

BSEC is committed to working with parents as full partners in their childrens education. This means including parents and caregivers in learning needs assessments, student success planning, and behavioral support when necessary.

BSEC offers the following to families supporting young people at our school:

  • No-fee access to all services and supports.
  • Regular communication with Inclusive Education personnel.
  • Online Parent Council space for you to have a direct line of communication with the principal
  • Safe community events and celebrations of learning multiple times per year.

Path Program

Thanks to a partnership with the City of Edmonton and ETS, BSEC is part of a bus pass program Providing Accessible Transit Here aka PATH! If students are homeless or at-risk of being homeless (this could look like lots of different things- come chat with Alaina our Youth Worker to see if you might be a fit) you may be eligible to get a FREE monthly bus pass to get to school, your appointments, commitments, work etc. Access to transit is important so well help to support you to find a way!

Staff Testimonial:

One of my youth has been couch-surfing for quite some time now. She was going through a rough time and was finding it hard to get to school every day because of all the stressors surrounding her. Having a PATH bus pass has enabled her to stay with different family members, look for work, attend interviews, and be at school more regularly so that she’s able to access further support. She didn’t have a PATH bus pass for a month and she really recognized how important the pass has been to her. She’s very grateful that shes back on the list! AT (Youth Worker)
